True Detective’ Recap: Ray Finds Out About Frank’s Huge Lie

While Ray (Colin Farrell) decided to hang up his detective belt, and go fully clean (60 days now), he’s caught between a rock and a hard place — and that’s just at work with Frank (Vince Vaughn). At home, he’s about to lose his son for good. However, he doesn’t realize how related those two are.

Let’s start with Frank and his personal issues. His wife didn’t want to be a “gangster’s wife” and wasn’t about to stand by — not that she had a choice. Now that they were club owners again, she was forced to decide if she could really be with him still through it all. When he asked her her choice, she told him she couldn’t have kids and that she actually had three operations in her twenties, which she had lied about. When leaving, she delivered one of the more powerful lines of the season: “I’m going home, you should make some time to join me.” And then, he followed her out. Does he actually have a heart? Don’t make that call just yet.

While Ray (who’s mustache free now) isn’t on the case anymore and Ani (Rachel McAdams) officially demoted to the evidence room, they’re still trying to communicate — of course at the dark, depressed-singer club. Ani is determined to get to the bottom of the Caspere case, and has even been talking to Paul (Taylor Kitsch) who’s being investigated for fraud.

However, he has his own personal problems: he told his mother about the pregnancy before finding out that she had spent the $20,000 he brought home from the service, four years ago. Basically, they had the most hurtful screaming match ever, and she revealed to him that she knew he was gay.

Look Who’s Back
So, what would bring them all together? Well, Ani and Paul couldn’t be more eager to reopen the cast of Caspere, but they needed Ray’s help: and the only thing that would get his agreement was the promise that this would help him get his son back.

He then found out that the man who raped his wife, the father of his son, was caught — and his wife never told him. He puts the pieces together that the photo that Frank had given him wasn’t of the man that raped his wife: it was a serial rapist and Frank had actually set him up.

So, in the last scene, Ray shows up to Frank’s house, bangs on the door and give s him the most horrific look imaginable. Looks like the villain may be getting attacked next week — over a cup of coffee. Do you think that Frank could be killed by Ray? Let us know.
